Eric Newman has done a tremendous job with his Tritons since taking over in 2011. In seven seasons he has a .639 winning percentage. In the past two seasons the Tritons have won the West Region and represented the CCAA in the Division II World Series. UCSD has been to the West Regional Tournament 4 out of the past 5 seasons. Their success has brought recognition. In both the 2017 & 2018 seasons Coach Newman has received the ABCA’s West Region Coach of the Year Awards. He has been the the CCAA Coach of the Year in 2012.

The 2018 UCSD Tritons were very good offensively. They averaged 8.3 runs per game with 5.5 walks. They hit 127 doubles and 78 homeruns. A very tough combination to deal with. Patient enough to get 329 walks but aggressive enough to hit 218 extra base hits.
