Three North Coaching Legends Named As '26 CCCBCA Hall of Fame Class
The 2026 class of the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame features Fresno City College and 3C2A all-time coaching wins leader Ron Scott, current CCCBCA president and Merced College coaching legend Chris Pedretti, and Skyline's winningest coach Dino Nomicos.
The three will be honored at the 3C2A State Championships in Irvine at a ceremony on Friday, May 22.
RON SCOTT
No coach has more victories at the California Community College level than Scott, who put together a fabulous, 34-year run at Fresno with a record of 1,110-419 for an outstanding .724 win percentage.
His Rams teams won 23 conference championships, made a record 32 regional playoff appearances. Four times his squads advanced to the state tournament and he reached the pinnacle when FCC won the 1992 state crown. That year he was selected as the ABCA National Coach of the Year.
Scott grew up in Woodside in the Bay Area. He was a multi-sport athlete in high school, winning all-league honors in both baseball and football. After high school, he attended Cañada College, playing for the Colts as an all-conference catcher, in addition to being the team captain and team MVP.
In 1974, Scott transferred to the University of Miami. The Hurricanes went to the College World Series that year, their first-ever appearance in Omaha. They were the national runner-up and Scott made the all-tournament team. He played one more season at Miami, then played one season of professional ball for the Portland Mavericks in the Northwest League before he began his transition into coaching.
In 1977, Scott served four years as head baseball, football and wrestling coach at Chowchilla High. He spent four years there, winning three league baseball titles. He moved on to a 6-year coaching stint at Madera High, adding one more league crown to his resume, before taking the job at Fresno City in 1989.
In 25 of of his Rams years, his teams won 30 or more games, including a record 45-win season in 1992, the best in school history. Eight of his players would go on to play in MLB, the most famous being 2-time, MLB All-Star pitcher Ted Lilly. He ended his FCC coaching career in 2022.
Scott hosted the 3C2A state championship tournament for a 20-year period as FCC was a then an annual host for the event.
Married to wife Rebecca, the Scott's children are softball successes in oldest daughter Amanda, a former all-American pitcher at Fresno State who won a national championship with the Bulldogs in 1998. Youngest daughter Courtney Deifel played as an All-American catcher at Cal Berkeley and recently passed the 400-win milestone as a 2-time SEC Coach of the Year at the University of Arkansas.
Scott is also a member of the Fresno County Hall of Fame.
CHRIS PEDRETTI
Pedretti compiled the most victories in Merced Athletics sports history, compiling a record of 840-620 for a .575 winning percentage over 35 seasons.
He guided the Blue Devils to 22 postseason appearances, five conference titles and was selected Northern California Coach of the Year in 2009.
A product of the Central Valley and Turlock High graduate, Pedretti went on to become a star student-athlete at Merced as the starting second baseman on two Small Colleges state title teams in 1976 and 1977. As a sophomore, he was a conference MVP and Division II Community College Player of the Year, earning a playing scholarship to attend San Jose State University. He was a team MVP and All-Conference as a senior for the Spartans.
He became a full-time head coach and counselor at Merced in 1990 after completing his master's in counseling from the University of San Francisco.
His success at Merced included seeing 23 of his players sign professional contracts. He coached 4-time, MLB All-Star reliever Brian Fuentes, who led the majors in saves with 48, pitching for the Angels in 2009. Another Merced product was 10-year MLB pitching veteran Doug Fister.
In 2013, Pedretti toured 20 community colleges and universities to study how institutions support the academic success of their athletes. He was able to help create and become coordinator of Merced's Athletic Academic Success Program as part of the college's student success model.
Pedretti has served as CCCBCA President since 2020.
Pedretti and wife Michelle, an elementary school educator for 35 years, are the proud parents of four children--Mikella, Joel, Tynan and Alessandria--all of whom earned master's degrees. A true family affair, both sons Joel and Tynan served as Blue Devil assistant coaches during Pedretti's tenure.
DINO NOMICOS
Nomicos is the winningest head coach in Skyline College baseball history and has a career record of 419-358 over 21 seasons.
First as a Prep All-American and All-State in multiple sports at San Francisco's Saint Ignatius High, Nomicos then also went the community college route in playing two years as an all-conference selection at Cañada College--same as Scott. He went on to be an all-conference outfielder at the University of San Francisco.
He began coaching at USF as an assistant coach from 1984-1990, then at Canada from 1990-1996. He took an assistant position at Skyline in 1998-1999 and took over as head coach in 2000. He took over a struggling Trojans baseball program, turning it into a playoff contender.
In 2004, Nomicos directed Skyline to its first conference baseball title in 32 years. His teams made nine postseason appearances.
Thirty-three of his players signed pro contracts and 172 players earned college scholarships to the next level. His students had a 95 percent graduation rate.
He is a 2-time Coast Conference Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2007. Nomicos earned the 4CA Coaching Achievement Award in 2024. In 2014, he was selected Victory Coach of the Year for the state.
In 2021, Nomicos became the Dean/Athletic Director of Skyline's Kinesiology, Athletics and Dance Dept. Back in 2005, Nomicos was instrumental in helping the college build a new athletics complex, including a Field Turf baseball stadium. He served 20 years on the executive committe for the CCCBCA.
He is married to Cathy, his wife of 39 years, and the couple has two daughters in Diana and Athena.
